AA Citation issued to California Nursing Home following patient's death

The California Department of Public Health found that the Homewood Care Center in San Jose was negligent when an elderly patient who had been suffering from Alzheimer's died. The Department of Public Health issued a AA citation and fined the facility $80,000. The patient was being fed by a certified nursing assistant when he began to show signs of distress and inability to swallow. No paramedics were called until 20 minutes later as the patient writhed in discomfort. Once the paramedics arrived the patient was pronounced dead.
