Woman Sues Nursing Home for Elder Abuse

Marsha Davis, a 68-year-old nursing home patient, is suing the Seal Beach nursing home that she resided at for elder abuse.

According to Mercury News, Davis resided at Country Villa, a nursing facility in Seal Beach, where she claims that she was wrongly drugged for several months so to take over her Social Security payments. The former preschool teacher states that the nursing home failed to provide her with the proper care and was given powerful psychotropic drugs for schizophrenia and dementia. Davis also claims that she was given the drug Ativan without a prescription, warning or a psychiatric evaluation.

Due to low and uneducated staff members, more and more cases of elder abuse at nursing homes are occurring. The best way to help prevent elder abuse from occurring is to speak with the nursing home employees as well as your friend or loved one who resides there. It is imperative that you learn the signs of elder abuse so that you are able to spot them quickly to help protect your loved ones.
