Two Santa Barbara Men Accused of Elder Abuse

Two former Santa Barbara County nursing home assistants have been charged with nursing home elder abuse for incidents that occurred at two separate times.

According to the Santa Barbara Independent, two men who both worked for Central Coast Nursing Center, were fired and then arrested on alleged elder abuse. The nursing home, which has since been stripped of its operating licenses for multiple health and safety violations, has a capacity of 154 residents and is considered the county's largest long-term care facilities.

29-year-old Brian Watt, a registered sex offender, was arrested on September 9, 2010 and was charged with felony lewd act upon a dependent adult, felony sexual battery on an institutionalized victim and misdemeanor dependent adult abuse. If convicted of all crimes, he could be facing up to 6 years in prison.

Another former employee, 32-year-old Hugo Rendon, was arrested on October 6th, 2011 and charged with four misdemeanor counts of battering an elder connected with two separate incidents that occurred in May 2011. Both men have been terminated from their positions at the nursing home and are awaiting arraignment.
