Fountain Valley Man Convicted in Death of Mother

A 49 year old man has been convicted of attempted murder for the elder abuse he caused his 74 year old mother.

Robert Lawrence Char was living with his elderly mother, Joyce Char, in Fountain Valley when on June 20, 2009 he got into an argument because she wanted her son do some work around the home. Char then proceeded to grab a shovel and beat his mother repeatedly in the head. According to the OC Register, Joyce Char was taken to the local hospital for blunt force trauma and remained unresponsive until her death a year and a half later due to her injuries.

Costa Mesa Nursing Home Fined For Death of Elderly Man

An Orange County nursing home has been penalized and fined with $75,000 in violations for elder abuse for a patient's death last year.

The Victoria Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Costa Mesa, has received the most severe penalty under state law after one of its residents died in September. According to the OC Register, a 92-year-old man was admitted to the Victoria Healthcare Center after he had hip surgery. The elderly man was recovering when an undetected ulcer ruptured in his small intestine which then caused his bloodstream to become infected. Family members and an occupational therapist all told officers that the elderly man was lethargic and in pain, but no one contacted the doctor.

Man Lives With Dead Uncle's Body for a Month, Arrested for Elder Abuse

Patrick Lara, 45, has been arrested on suspicion of elder abuse, involuntary manslaughter and caretaker theft in Merced County.

According LA Weekly, Lara has been living with his dead uncle's body for over a month in order to use his ATM card. When officers arrived at the mobile home, they found the remains of Adrian Lugo, 63, covered in mold. Lara, who was supposed to be Lugo's caretaker, told officers that his uncle fell, broke his arm and never got up and that he "was going to save enough money to leave and then call authorities". Lara has been booked and is being held on $175,000 bail.

Stabbing at Long Beach Nursing Home Facility

Police report that a man has been arrested for stabbing a man at a Long Beach assisted care facility just after 7:00 am. The stabbing occurred at the Crofton Manor Inn on East 5th Street and Cherry Avenue and 1 death has been confirmed. Not much is known about the stabbing or the man in custody, however the suspect was taken into custody for questioning.
